Commercial Under Counter Fridge FAQs

What is the difference between a commercial fridge and a domestic fridge?

While a domestic fridge may be opened a few times a night, a commercial fridge will be constantly opened from the start of service to the closing. This means that commercial fridges need to be more powerful to keep cool during so much use. They also need to have a sturdier construction as they are heavily used during their lifetime. As a result, commercial fridges are much more robust, but can also be noisier than a household fridge. In a busy kitchen, the slightly louder hum won't be noticed.

Can you use a regular fridge in a commercial kitchen?

Regular fridges are designed to function in temperatures of around 20°C. If they are put in a very hot commercial kitchen, they will either fail or break down very quickly. While they work okay at home, a regular fridge simply can't stand the heat of a professional kitchen.

Do commercial fridges use more power?

Commercial undercounter fridges can use more energy than a typical household fridge. This is because they work harder to keep things cool due to more activity in the kitchen. Technology like a front-breathing refrigeration system forces air up in front of the door to minimise the amount of energy that a commercial fridge uses, but most commercial fridges do need to perform additional work when compared to a regular household fridge. So, while they do use more power, it is often due to the additional capacity and operational requirements when compared to a normal household fridge.
