The recently published Harden’s eating out guide has reported promising news for the London restaurant scene, with openings for the last year the highest for a quarter of a century at 148 recorded launches.

The number of closures in the guide was also good news as it was the lowest since 2000 at 47 recorded closures; however this has raised comments from experts that the current level of growth is not sustainable and will mean competitive times are ahead.

When looking into what has caused the spike in growth this year it has become clear that regeneration in East London suburbs has prompted an unprecedented amount of openings in areas that used to be neglected, ie Peckham, Battersea, Tooting and Grenwich.
