Wetherspoons recycle kitchen oil into Biofuel

Wetherspoons have recently announced that they have signed a contract with recycling specialists Brocklesby to turn the used cooking oil from their 934 pub kitchens into oil for the biofuels industry.

The used oil will be collected by the chains delivery vans and forwarded onto Brocklesby’s recycling plant in East Yorkshire, here the oil will go through many processes to be turned into ‘refined’ oil for use in the biodiesel industry.

A spokesman for Brocklesby commented that an ever growing number of food retail businesses are looking to increase their recycling throughput and lower their carbon footprint. Recovering the oil in this way also stops the oil being inappropriately disposed of, this is an ever increasing problem as oil that gets into drains can pollute water and block sewers, causing waste problems and flooding.
