Energy bills slashed with ‘KERS’

The trading house restaurant in Glasgow has installed a kitchen energy recovery system (KERS) to extract heat from the cookline to help warm the sites water. He energy gathered is enough to warm water in two 300 litres cylinders, taking it from mains temperature to 75°C.

Enough hot water is produced to supply the kitchen, bar and toilets. Trading floor owners, living ventures group looks at way to reduce emissions and increase energy efficiency. This looks to be a significant investment and gives a clear indication at their intent to tackle the size of their carbon footprint and reduce their utility bills.

The system also heats the incoming air in the kitchen and the water for the dishwasher allowing them to switch to a hot feed on their commercial washer. A spokesman for the trading floor said the effects had been remarkable almost instantaneous.

Solutions like this and many more are available to tackle the environmental and cost issues facing the hospitality sector, trading floor should be applauded for making such an investment.
